The North-West region has the most varied and magnificent fishing in all of Ireland and our location is spectacularly well-placed to take advantage of the many lakes and rivers in the neighbouring countryside.
Our lodge is on the beautiful Lake Assaroe for which permits can be obtained for fishing for its famously large pike and native brown trout.
We are ten minutes from Loch Erne with its prolific and productive mayfly hatch, fifteen minutes from the river Drowes which opens on 1 January and has some of the finest salmon fishing in Ireland, and twenty minutes from Lough Melvin, world renowned for its unique species of trout; Sonaghan, Gillaroo and Ferox, as well as Brown Trout and Salmon.
Tom is available to guide on any or all of these waters; our guests may also be invited to fish on private salmon water in Co. Tyrone.
Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Fermanagh
Donegal is perhaps the wildest, most beautiful and least spoilt county in Ireland.
We are close to the breath-taking cliffs at Slieve League (shown here), the highest sea cliffs in Europe, and almost beside the lovely Yeats Country scenery of Sligo as well as the timeless beauty of the Fermanagh lakes. This region is the centre of Neolithic tombs in Ireland, many of them set in magnificent isolation, little known and rarely visited. The world famous Marble Arch caves are thirty minutes away.
Hill walking in unspoilt countryside is all around us. Popular climbs include The Benwiskin Mountain (shown here), the famous Slieve League, Benbulben Mountain (the only table top mountain in Europe).
Horse riding is very easily arranged. We are in the advantageous position of having riding schools around us offering rides along the beach for the beginner or gallops along The Wild Atlantic Way for the advanced rider (see Island View Riding School picture here). Alternatively, should you be interested in seeing the Irish countryside, you have the option of trekking up into the mountains and seeing the famous Gleniff Horseshoe.
The neighbouring town of Bundoran is fast becoming recognised as a major surfing centre in Europe. Professional surfers travel from all over the world to Bundoran to catch the biggest waves and take part in competitions. Surfing is available from the many surfing schools for all levels. You can’t leave this area without having tried it!
Anyone wishing to explore the country by bicycle, supplied by us, will be delighted by the surrounding beauty, and the absence of traffic!
Tourists come to Ireland from all over the world for its golf courses. Near Assaroe Lake Lodge, there are golf courses at Bundoran, Strandhill and Sligo.
The golf courses are located along the rugged and dramatic coastlines of Donegal Bay coastline with a mixture of dunes and undulating terrains along The Wild Atlantic Way. You will be spoilt with fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Dartry mountains on the other.
